Domaine Pierre Moncuit

Domaine Pierre Moncuit is universally regarded as one of the two or three finest small growers in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, one of the top Grand Cru villages. The vineyards are planted on the profoundly chalky, long, southeast facing slopes known as the Cote des Blancs. Their "young" vines that produce the Cuvee are 30 to 35-years old. In general, the wines represent brilliant, crystalline Chardonnay of tremendous minerality and length with a true sense of the Mesnil terroir.

Wine Enthusiast

From 90-year-old vines in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, this is a superbly ripe wine, full-bodied, concentrated with a great swathe of minerality going through. This is still young, based on the 2004 vintage, but shows every sign of developing into a beautifully toasty maturity.

Score: 92. —Roger Voss, December 31, 2007.

Wine Advocate

Moncuit's non-vintage Cuvee Pierre Moncuit-Delos Blanc de Blancs Brut is typically a rich, powerful, crisp effort displaying notes of chalk dust, white peaches, subtle bees honey, brioche, and yellow plums. Medium-bodied with gorgeous as well as persistent effervescence, and a dry, fabulously pure, laser-like finish, it should be drunk over the next 3-4 years.

Score: 92. —Robert Parker, December 2005.
