Cellers Fuentes

Color: Deep, rich, inky purple. Bouquet: Sublime aromas recall a blend of fresh blueberries and blackberries, kirsch and mineral nuances, mingled with toasty new oak and floral notes. Taste: Velvety smooth, fine tannins. Intense and ample with a richly textured structure and pronounced complexity. Ripe fruit, bitter chocolate and mineral notes abound. Excellent level of acidity. Fresh, persistent finish. Serving Suggestions: Enjoy with roast lamb or pork. Excellent with game dishes and meaty casseroles. An original pairing with beef carpaccio. Sensational with flavorful cheeses, such as Manchego and Pont l'Eveque.

Wine Enthusiast

A massive wine with lovely black fruit wrapped is a veneer of classy charred oak. A bomber but a precision one. The plum and blackberry fruit is vital and forceful, while the finish is big, aggressive, supremely built and long lasting. The epitome of brickyard Priorat, so give it a year or two before opening.

Score: 93. —Michael Schachner, March 01, 2004.

Wine Advocate

This limited production cuvee from Priorato is a blend of 70% old vine Grenache and 30% Carignan. Lush, fat, and fleshy is the opaque purple-colored 2000 Gran Clos. Deep, pure, full-bodied, and impressive, it reveals notions of melted licorice intermixed with kirsch liqueur and raspberry fruit. It should drink well for 10-12 years.

Score: 93. —Robert Parker, February 2003.

Wine Spectator

Ripe plum, black cherry, mineral and smoke flavors run deep in this concentrated red, yet remain focused and linger on the finish, after formidable tannins have melted away. A bruiser with a heart of sweet, ripe fruit. Best after 2004.

Score: 92. —Thomas Matthews, 2003.
